The Syrian leadership has sent messages to Israel warning that any further strikes by the IDF on targets within Syria' borders would be met with Scud rockets fired deep into the Jewish state, the Lebanese newspaper Al-Diyar reported Saturday.

The Assad regime conveyed the message to Israel via Russian mediators, the report said.

According to the report, Syria warned that Israeli strikes on Syrian military targets would be met with the firing of Scud missiles capable of carrying half a ton of explosives at IDF bases, while an attack on civilian targets would see Syria launching a counter strike on the Haifa port and the petrochemical plants in the area.

The report warned that Syria has over 800 Scud missiles and that Syria would not issue any warnings before the missile strikes because Israel does not warn before it hits.

PepsiCo, Walmart, Starbucks join Google boycott after ads run next to 'appalling' videos

PepsiCo, Walmart, and Starbucks have joined the international boycott against Google's YouTube and suspended advertising on the video-sharing service over mounting concerns that their ads may have run next to "appalling" videos.

Some advertisers said they won't return to YouTube until they are certain Google has the situation under control.

"The content with which we are being associated is appalling and completely against our company values," Walmart said in a Friday statement.

The company, alongside PepsiCo and several others, said they will also stop buying ads that Google places on more than two million other third-party websites,AP reported.

Verizon and AT&T, along with UK retailer Marks and Spencer and L'Oreal, pulled ads from YouTube earlier this week. AT&T said it is removing the ads from the non-search inventory on Google because its "ads may have appeared alongside YouTube content promoting terrorism and hate," the company wrote in an email, Reuters reported.

Cyborg dreams - are we metaphorically dismembered by our gadgets?

Today, depending on your favoured futurist prophet, a kind of digital Elysium awaits us all. Over millennia, we have managed to unshackle ourselves from the burdens of time and space — from heat, cold, hunger, thirst, physical distance, mechanical effort — along a trajectory seemingly aimed at abstraction. Humanity's collective consciousness is to be uploaded into the super-Matrix of the near future — or augmented into cyborg immortality, or out-evolved by self-aware machine minds. Whatever happens, the very meat of our physical being is to be left behind.

Except, of course, so far we remain thorougly embodied. Flesh and blood. There is just us, slumped in our chairs, at our desks, inside our cars, stroking our smartphones and tablets. Peel back the layers of illusion, and what remains is not a brain in a jar — however much we might fear or hunger for this — but a brain within a body, as remorselessly obedient to that body's urges and limitations as any paleolithic hunter-gatherer.

It's a point that has been emphasised by much recent research into thought and behaviour. To quote from Thinking, Fast and Slow (2011) by Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman, 'cognition is embodied; you think with your body, not only with your brain'. Yet when it comes to culture's cutting edge, there remains an overwhelming tendency to treat embodiment not as a central condition of being human that our tools ought to serve, but rather as an inconvenience to be eliminated.

Mazen Faqha, a senior member of Hamas, was shot and killed in Gaza on Friday. Hamas blamed Israel for the killing and threatened revenge.

Faqha was shot four times in the head by a silenced handgun while walking near his home in the Tel el-Hawa neighborhood  in southwestern Gaza.

"Hamas and its (military wing) hold (Israel) and its collaborators responsible for this despicable crime. (Israel) knows that the blood of fighters is not spilled in vain and Hamas will know how to act," Hamas said in a statement reported by Reuters.

Khalil al-Haya, Hamas' deputy chief in the Gaza Strip, said only Israel would have had something to gain from the death, Reuters added.

College professors warn about "pain and injury" that controversial guest speakers may cause students

Millennials don't seem to see the hypocrisy in being a snowflake.

They run around whining about certain people's "privilege" (white privilege, male privilege, etc.) in this society, but it's a pretty damn "privileged" position to worry about someone hurting your feelings or offending you — as if that's the worst possible thing that could ever happen to you in the world.

Now colleges are straight up warning their students about the potential for guest speakers to offend them and demanding anyone who could be offensive not be allowed to speak at all.

Reason.com reports that the Commission for Ethnicity, Race, and Equity (CERE) at Wellesley, a group made up of six Wellesley professors mind you, recently sent an email to the entire campus discouraging, "guest speakers with controversial and objectionable beliefs" without first considering the potential pain, injury, harm, and damage to the students.
