I feel better with some more canned chicken in the house

qfc actually had some organic cilantro so tomorrow I'm going to make some pico de gallo

did you read what I posted before about how good cilantro is for you?  Leaches the heavy metals out of your system


the store was low on some produce.  the produce guy said he's been having problems getting some items because of the weather.  tomatoes in particular are going fast.

I got a gallon of regular whole milk. It was on special for 1.79.  I am going to freeze it and use it probably mostly for homemade pudding.  I usually drink the lacto or acidopholis milk, but that stuff is 3 times the price.  I think I can handle regular milk if it's been cooked, like when I make pudding. 

I am thinking about making some homemade custard.  I used to make it all the time. 


I'm body tired and I'll probably be worn out tomorrow, but I did good today and I will sleep until I wake up...usually by 9 my body is waking up.

I think I'm back to having a good variety of food, snacks, stuff to make snacks.  Pretty well stocked in daily household supplies too

I saw on the news today that in 2010, mericans used 3.7 billion dollars in grocery coupons.

a 9% increase over the previous year

i use more coupons then i used to now.

i check the circular every week- plus they give in store coupons that i save now.

i forgot to tell you i got a stainless steel with glass cover canister set for flour and sugar and stuff at 50% off last wwek.

it's been on the shelves for a long time and was always to expensive to buy. I didn't want to use plastic containers plus they are too expensive too.

it feels good to have the stuff in stock

and now I have more choices in the upcoming weeks.

I can always use the safeway delivery, but they weren't having the specials on some of the stuff I wanted to replace

I am tired, though.  I'll see how I feel the next couple days. I hope I didn't overdue.

it was an experiment to see how I did.  I couldn't have handled one of the crazy grocers in the crazy parts of town.

I still have some stocks I want to use up, but the stuff I got today had good dates on them.  Canned stuff is dated until late 2013, some to 2014, so those will go to the back of the shelves when it gets a little warmer and I can spend half an hour or so in the garage sorting.

stainless steel containers for dry goods are great!

I use large "French" style canning jars I got in the early 80's from a store called Pottery Barn, that is now a huge chain of stores.

They are the jars with the clamp down lids that you place a rubber gasket under the clamp.  After 20 years, the rubber gaskets start getting dried up, but I was able to find some replacements.

I have a few small one quart size, four or five half gallon size and a couple gallon size.  Found a price tag on the bottom of one a while back...paid $1.79 for the largest size....those were the days, eh?

I am trying to stop using plastic food containers, for leftovers and any kind of general cooking.  Alot of food already comes in plastic, but I'm trying to eliminate it in my refrigerator.  I don't use the microwave much anymore either.

Costco has some nice glass refrigerator dishes, they call them... sizes like the Glad containers, but in glass.

so far, I've been using soup bowls and such for leftovers...I might get the costco containers eventually, but what I'm using is working out okay now

good on you for your patience... back when I was a regular shopper, I would hold out on some things too

but as more and more people moved into this area, others would beat me to the deals

I have everything I need for my kitchen....I'd LIKE to have a new knife set.  my silverware is getting that overused look and some pieces are a bit bent, but I'm not complaining.  I'm still using the remaining pieces of a Corelle dish set I got back in the 80's when they first came out.  And I still use some dishes I won at a carnival dime toss back when I was a freshman in college....LOL

maybe someday I'll get a new set, but for now, I'm hunkering down
