A highly infectious strain of bird flu was confirmed to have been found in Scotland last night.

The H5N8 strain, which has been spreading across continental Europe, was discovered in a wild peregrine falcon in Dumfries and Galloway.

This brings the total number of cases in the UK up to five, after a further two birds in Somerset and Leicestershire were also found to have contracted the virus.
