FBI to probe Charlotteville car ramming that killed a woman

August 13, 2017, 8:57 AM (IDT) The FBI has opened a civil rights investigation into the car ramming which killed a woman and injured 19 others among a crowd of people demonstrating in Charlottesville against a far right rally. The local police reported another 15 people injured in street brawls Friday and Saturday between white nationalists and counter-protesters.
Saturday night, President Donald Trump condemned "in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides.” Speaking in New Jersey, where he is on holiday, he said: "The hate and the division must stop right now. We have to come together as Americans."

On Friday, white nationalists held lit torches and chanted "White lives matter" as they marched through the University of Virginia in the city. Anti-racist organizations such as Black Lives Matter held protest demonstrations at the scene.
Oren Segal, director of the Anti-Defamation League's Center on Extremism, said several "white power" groups were present - including neo-Nazis and factions of the Ku Klux Klan. According to one account, some were chanting “Jew will not replace us.”
The nationalists had gathered to protest the city's plans to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.
